New Ambassador Jordan: Oliver Gebert strengthens the bridge between German Mittelstand and the Middle East

Oliver Gebert is now taking on the role of Ambassador for Jordan in the German Mittelstand & United Mittelstand network. The entrepreneur and „Business Across Borders“ expert has had close ties with Jordan for many years and has an excellent network there in business, education and politics.

With his experience from delegation trips, skilled labour and outsourcing projects, he will support companies from our network as a country contact for market entry, cooperation and preparation of trips to Jordan.

Jordan, on the other hand, is gaining significant strategic importance for European SMEs - not least thanks to the new EU-Jordan partnership with a financial package of around EUR 3 billion for the years 2025-2027.

Why Jordan is exciting

  • Stable anchor in a dynamic region
Jordan is regarded as a reliable partner and an important stabilising factor in the Middle East - which is precisely why the EU is currently elevating relations to the level of a „Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership“ and supporting the country with macro-financial aid amounting to 500 million euros, among other things.
  • Targeted modernisation and investment programmes
With the Economic Modernisation Vision 2033 and the EU partnership, investments are flowing into digital technologies, green energy, infrastructure, water, education and employment - all areas in which German SMEs can offer concrete expertise and solutions.
  • Young, well-educated population
Over 60 per cent of Jordan's population is under 30 years old, and the country is consciously focusing on digitalisation, innovation and international cooperation - fertile ground for partnerships with skilled workers, outsourcing and joint innovation projects.
  • Bridgehead to the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA)
Due to its location, political orientation and international connections, Jordan acts as a logistical and political hub - an easily accessible entry point to markets in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Relevance for the SME sector

  • As Ambassador, Oliver Gebert will be the first point of contact for questions relating to Jordan, co-operations and market entry.
  • He brings in existing networks with ministries, universities, associations and companies - access that individual companies can hardly build up on their own.
  • Topics such as recruiting skilled labour, outsourcing/nearshoring, research & education and joint innovation projects can be initiated in a targeted manner.
  • Planned and existing delegation trips to Jordan offer members the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the market in a structured manner in a short space of time - members of German Mittelstand benefit from discounted conditions.

Outlook

With Oliver Gebert as Ambassador Jordan, German Mittelstand is sharpening its international focus - and making a region accessible that offers many opportunities but requires good preparation. In the next step, we will bundle and successively expand delegation offers, information formats and matching opportunities for interested companies in the network. Investing in relationships, knowledge and contacts early on will give you a clear head start when it comes to concrete projects and investments later on.
